The enduring intelligence and security partnership between Australia and the United States has been reaffirmed during a visit by US Director of National Intelligence, Avril Haines.

Australia’s Director-General of National Intelligence, Andrew Shearer, hosted his US counterpart for a tour of the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, a site that stands as a testament to our shared history, sacrifices and unwavering commitment to global security.

In a solemn ceremony, the intelligence chiefs laid wreaths beside the Pool of Reflection, honouring the memory of those who have served. This poignant gesture was observed by members of the graduating class of the Royal Military College Duntroon.

The Last Post ceremony paid tribute to Private Ishmael Braithwaite, who served Australia in the First World War and died on the Western Front. His sacrifice, along with those of thousands more, was commemorated by the recitation of the Ode, followed by the sounding of the Last Post.

This tribute served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by servicemen and women in the pursuit of peace and security for both nations.
